Klei Entertainment has been chipping away at the development of and adding features to Oxygen Not Included for a few years now. The game first hit Steam Early Access in 2017 and has seen a steady stream of updates since. It has even come to other storefronts like the Epic Games Store. After several years of development, Klei revealed today that Oxygen Not Included is finally set to leave Early Access on May 28.
Personally, I’ve had a ton of fun with Oxygen Not Included after getting it on Epic Games Store. Klei Entertainment has done something special with the simulation genre here, and it’s all wrapped in the charm of their previous titles like Don’t Starve. The game has found success already as well, having sold over 2 million copies in the two years since its Steam Early Access launch.
While Oxygen Not Included already has a plethora of interesting features for players to mess with, even more are set to be added to the game once it exits Early Access next month. Specifically, this update coinciding with the games launch will add “three new biomes, new buildings, new creatures, and asteroid generation settings.”
Still, the developers were sure to thank the community for its pivotal feedback towards several game features during Early Access. “We’ve been amazed at how the community has taken the game and run with it…It is all so much more than we could have hoped for and we’re so grateful for our community’s continued feedback and support,” stated Klei Entertainment Co-Founder Jamie Cheng.
To celebrate this release date announcement, the game has been discounted by 25% on Steam. If you want to wait until launch to pick up the game, Oxygen Not Included will finally exit Early Access on May 28.
