In a “special thank you” on their forums, Obsidian has quietly confirmed that story DLC will be coming to The Outer Worlds in 2020. Mostly, the post was there to thank everyone for voting for The Outer Worlds at The Game Awards. However, at the end of the post, they casually dropped some big news. “The journey isn’t over yet,” the post reads, “as we are excited to announce that we will be expanding the story through DLC next year!”

Obviously, when a game is as successful as The Outer Worlds, DLC usually feels like a given. However, with how many irons Obsidian has in the fire, it wouldn’t have been surprising if the team had chosen to just move on. Plus, the story in The Outer Worlds feels complete. That is increasingly becoming a rarity in the “games as a live service” world we’re living in. This DLC feels like more of a throwback. Instead of finishing the story, Obsidian has the opportunity to tell something completely new.

Of course, with nothing to go on other than a sentence in an official forum post, there’s not much to extrapolate yet. Will the DLC come in the form of a new crew member? Or maybe it’s a shorter tale about a completely different crew? With a vast universe to draw upon, there’s so much Obsidian could do with this. Whatever and whenever they do announce the DLC, DualShockers will be here to let you know about it.

The Outer Worlds is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will be coming to Nintendo Switch early next year. The game is included with Xbox Games Pass, which makes hopping in and trying out this excellent RPG easy as pie.
