Hideki Kamiya Seems to Want a Bayonetta and Mortal Kombat Crossover

The past few entries in the Mortal Kombat series have seen a variety of different guest characters join the roster. From Kratos on the PS3 version of MK9 to the odd additions of Jason Vorhees, Predator, Alien, and Leatherface in MKX, NetherRealm Studios has seemed more than ever before open to bringing in guest characters to the world of Mortal Kombat. Now, as the launch of Mortal Kombat 11 nears in April, it seems that one famous game creator is voicing who he’d next like to see join the fray.

Over on Twitter, PlatinumGames’ outspoken and ever-entertaining Hideki Kamiya recently tweeted that he’d love to see one of his own creations, that of Bayonetta, appear in Mortal Kombat. Kamiya-san simply tweeted out “Mortal Kombat x Bayonetta” and immediately churned up not only speculation from fans that the Umbra Witch could be coming to MK11, but also planted the mere idea in everyone’s heads. Despite already appearing in the Super Smash Bros. series, Bayonetta would kind of be a perfect fit in the world of Mortal Kombat given how hyper-violent both franchises are.

Whether or not Kamiya-san actually is privy to something that we currently are not or is instead just trying to generate excitement though is unknown. It is worth mentioning that even if Bayonetta were to somehow come to Mortal Kombat 11, whether or not she’d appear in all versions of the game is in question. Even though the first entry in the series appeared on multiple platforms, Bayonetta 2 was a Wii U exclusive at launch and the forthcoming Bayonetta 3 is a Switch exclusive. Because of this, I have a hard time seeing Bayonetta appearing as a guest fighter on any of MK11’s platforms other than Switch.

While this tweet from Kamiya-san is more than likely just him sharing a fun thought that he had, it’s fun to speculate. Bayonetta would be perfect in Mortal Kombat and it’d be fun to play as her in a fighting game other than just that of Smash.

Mortal Kombat 11 is due out later this spring on April 23 for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch. Currently, Bayonetta 3 is in development exclusively for Switch, although we haven’t seen anything from the game in quite some time.
