When it released in 2016, Firewatch drew players in through a story set deep in the wild as the main character, Henry, uncovered deeper mysteries inside the forests of Yellowstone, and now a new audience of players will be able to experience the game on the Nintendo Switch.

Developer Campo Santo announced today that its debut title will be coming to Nintendo Switch this spring, allowing players the chance to explore the wilderness (and an exceptional story) out in the wilderness itself.

While Campo Santo didn’t provide a specific release date or window, other than “soon,” the studio explained that “reengineering the sprawling meadows and towering trees of Firewatch‘s wilderness to play perfectly on new hardware is no small engineering task.”

Campo Santo also added in its blog post on the announcement that “we’ve been hard at work stripping much of Firewatch‘s tech down to the studs and rebuilding it to render the world more quickly, to stream and load faster, and to generally be more responsive” in transitioning the game to the Switch.

However, the studio also added that “for our other players, take note: the optimizations we’re doing to Firewatch aren’t just for Switch,” but that they are “for Firewatch‘s future as well.” Specifically, the studio will be bringing some of these optimizations to the game on other platforms, including PS4/PS4 Pro, Xbox One/Xbox One X, PC, and Mac.

Firewatch is available now on PS4, Xbox One, PC, Mac, and Linux, and the game will be heading to the Switch within the next few months.
