As of 2020, FGO now reached its 5th anniversary. For the occasion, a new project, Under the Same Sky, is celebrating the 5th anniversary of Type-Moon’s gacha game.

Under the Same Sky is one of the multiple projects celebrating the anniversary. The projects goes like this: Local newspapers of each of the 47 prefectures in Japan are all publishing FGO illustrations in their upcoming issues. One of these illustrations has been set at Shibuya Station by Delight Works. Moreover, seeing the current state of emergency in Japan due to Covid-19, all illustrations will be posted online as well, on the FGO 5th Anniversary page.

Under the Same Sky will continue in the future, as we only had the first wave of illustrations for now, made of 11 illustrations. Five wave of illustrations will be published in total. The next wave of Under the Same Sky illustrations will be published in local newspapers of the Tokai-Hokuriku region, and online, on May 25.

The 11 illustrations revealed so far are included in the gallery below. Each illustration features one FGO Servant in a certain prefecture and theme.

Fate/ Grand Order is part of the Nasuverse and Type-Moon’s Fate franchise, which started in early 2000s. FGO is nowadays so popular that it eclipsed anything else Fate, such as the original PC game Fate/Stay Night. FGO is held in particularly high regard thanks to Nasu’s storytelling and the talented writers working on the game, most notably Hikaru Sakurai and Yuuichirou Higashide.

FGO is one of the most popular mobile games ever, and as of February 2019, it had generated since launch over 3 billions dollars of revenue worldwide. Multiple official anime, manga and game adaptations have launched as well. FGO is also one of the most popular game nowadays when it comes to fan-made content such as cosplay, fanart and doujin manga.

Type-Moon is currently also celebrating the 15th anniversary of the Fate franchise as a whole, and a new cool artbook was also released. You can read all the details here. The artbook also includes an interview of George Kamitani, who recently directed and wrote 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. Together with DualShockers, I’m also currently doing a translated let’s play of 13 Sentinels.  Because of a huge lack of time on my part, the project is currently on hiatus, but I’ll try to get back to it as soon as I can.
