Visual novels are a very peculiar genre, which tends to be very specific to Japan, with quite a few recent imitations from developers who love Japanese games.

Among the immense production of visual novels coming from the archipelago of the Rising Sun, the Muv-Luv series is certainly one of the most popular.

Interestingly, it tends to be slightly polarizing. While many (yours truly included) swear by the idea that Muv-Luv and its many sequels and prequels are among the best the genre has to offer, others maintain that they are overrated.

In today’s episode of our Weebcast, I will give you a rather deep overview on why Muv-Luv holds such a special place in the heart of many. I will also explain just how expansive and complex the saga is, as it extends much beyond the two (or three, depending on whether you consider Muv-Luv Extra and Unlimited two separate games) games that have been released in the west so far.

If you’d like to hear the opposite point of view, I’m afraid you’ll have to ask someone else.

As usual, Please keep in mind that this podcast is still in an experimental phase. Constructive criticism and suggestions are absolutely welcome and encouraged, so do leave them in the comments below. You can also let me know which themes you’d like to see covered in upcoming episodes.

Now, without further ado, you can listen to the DualShockers’ Weebcast below, either on YouTube or Soundcloud. You can also listen on iTunes if you so wish. In case you missed it, you can also check out the previous episode, which discussed the many reveals of Anime Expo.
