At Tokyo Game Show 2018 in Chiba, Japan, DualShockers finally got grubby hands on a build of Devil May Cry 5 that included evergreen hero Dante (the real one).

We also managed to record a nice chunk of gameplay for your viewing pleasure. The game was running on Xbox One X.

Incidentally, the headline mentions that Dante looks stylish, certainly not me. I was using auto assist mode, which basically allowed me to button mash to my heart content. Unfortunately, I didn’t yet have nearly enough time with the game to learn the combos, and I’m not getting any younger so my reflexes aren’t what they used to be.

That being said, I promise that at release I’ll dedicate a suitable amount of time to git good… or at least git semi-decent.

Dante is an extremely technical character, much more than Nero, that I tried at Gamescom. He has multiple weapons (both for melee and ranged combat) and multiple stances that change his moveset radically. You can change stances dynamically during a combo, which increases the complexity even further.

If you’re not into training your brain and fingers into a well-honed war machine, assist mode will actually change stances for you, ensuring that pretty much everyone can enjoy the game.

Personally, I enjoyed it plenty, enough to be determined to sink in enough time to learn when the time comes. I’m sure it’ll be the same for many others.

Without further ado, you can enjoy the gameplay below. Incidentally, the video does not include any story element or cutscene, so you can watch it without fear of spoilers.

If you want to see more, you can enjoy a video showcasing the Japanese voice cast, the latest  screenshots, and the latest trailer. You can also read about the Deluxe Edition and the PC requirements for the game. You should then watch some more gameplay from Gamescom and more from Tokyo Game Show, featuring Nero in action.

Devil May Cry 5 releases on March 8th, 2019, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. If you’d like to reserve a copy, you can already pre-order it on Amazon.
