Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana released on both PS4 and PS Vita last September to very positive reviews. Unfortunately, many fans were very disappointed weren’t that happy the game’s initial localization, which caused NISA, who is in charge of localizing the North American version of the game, to completely re-localize the game, a rarity for these kinds of western releases.

This re-localization has finally been released on both PS4 and PS Vita today. The update was supposed to launch alongside the PC version of the game, but that port has been delayed indefinitely. According to NISA, this patch applies to almost every facet of the game, including the basic script, item names, in-game terminology, enemy names, and graphical text. The dialogue was also fully re-recorded to line up with the re-written text.

Due to the number of changes this update brings, it clocks in at a pretty big file size on both platforms. The PS Vita update is 279 MB, while the update on PS4 is over four times larger at 1.16 GB. While this update may take a noticeable chunk of hard drive space for some on both systems, it will likely be worth it in the long run, as it makes the game a more accurate and enjoyable experience.

For those playing digitally on PS Vita, be aware that the patch will increase the amount of space Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana takes up on the memory card; meanwhile, just the patch itself will be present on the memory card for those of who own physical PS Vita copies of the game.

Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is currently available on PS Vita and PS4. PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the game are also in the cards for later this year.
