Update: We misinterpreted the original press release found here and have since realized that Haven is an indie studio working with Sony to create a new IP. Our original story had them listed as a newcomer to the PlayStation Studio lineup, but this is false. We’ve changed the story to account for the new information. Story begins here:

It’s always exciting when new studios get announced. For Sony, starting a new studio with Jade Raymond at the head sounds like a great idea.

Every day we’re hearing about the ins and outs of game studios–from closures to new announcements to job openings. However, it’s not every day that Sony announces a new studio to be making an exclusive IP.

When I read the announcement that Haven Entertainment would be headed by Jade Raymond, I didn’t totally know who that was. If you’re like me, here’s everything you need to know about Jade Raymond and why she seems like she might be the next household name in gaming.

Who is Jade Raymond?

Jade Raymond is a Canadian game producer hot off the heels of Google Stadia’s studio closure. Starting her career in games at EA as a producer on the Sims Online, she’s moved between a small handful of studios over the years. Mainly sticking around Ubisoft from 2004 to 2015, Raymond was a producer on the first Assassin’s Creed and was the executive producer for Assassin’s Creed IIAssassin’s Creed: BloodlinesTom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: BlacklistWatch Dogs, and The Mighty Quest for Epic Loot.

After her time at Ubisoft and Ubisoft Montreal, she helped form Motive Studios in 2015 best known for their work on Star Wars: Battlefront 2 and Star Wars: Squadrons. Four years later, she announced that she would be at the head of Stadia Games and Entertainment for Google.

She also worked as a correspondent on the G4 show the Electronic Playground.

Haven Entertainment

Following the closure of Stadia Games and Entertainment, Raymond decided to open a new studio: Haven Entertainment. It was announced earlier today that Haven would be the newest studio making a Playstation IP. Not much is known currently about what they’re working on, but they’re “already hard at work on an unannounced IP.”

Raymond’s hopes for Haven Entertainment are that “together, we want to create games that are a haven for players, and we want to build a studio that is a haven for developers.”
