Video game sales at retail improved in the UK year-by-year in September, led by FIFA 18 and Destiny 2.

Over 2.36 million games were sold at a variety of retail stories in the UK this past month, which is a rise of 7 percent over September 2016. However, the 7 percent increase may not be all indicative of a healthy bump, when you factor in September 2016 didn’t have the gargantuan release of Destiny 2 to pump its numbers. Further, in terms of notable releases, September 2017 packed a quite few more than the previous year.

With FIFA 18 at the top, EA was the No.1 publisher for the month in the UK, which comes after several months failing to make even the Top Five. Behind EA, is Activision at No.2 and Nintendo at No.3, both of which found great success throughout the summer months.

Speaking of Nintendo, it sold more games during September than any previous month since it launched back in March. However, the unit’s hardware sales are slowing a bit, notably not doing as well in the UK compared to some other territories.

As for games, September 2017 was full of quite a few under-performers. Top-dog FIFA 18 at retail saw a decline compared to FIFA 17, however, it did notably have less time on the market (digital marketplaces also continue to grow eating away at retail sales).

Sales were also down for PES 2018 (No. 10) and Project CARS 2 (No.14) compared to PES 2017 and Project CARS, respectively. Meanwhile, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite appears to have really struggled, only managing to grab the No.45 spot.

Alleviating some of these poor or disappointing performances was the fact that ARK: Survival Evolved managed to crack the Top 20, grabbing the No.18 spot, while NBA 2K18 saw a year-on-year increase of 28 percent, securing it the No.5 spot.

Other new titles to crack the charts include: Dishonored: Death of the Outsider (No.22), Knack II (No.34), Metroid: Samus Returns (No.35), Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition (No.33), The Escapists 2 (No.29), Pokken Tournament DX (No.26), and Everybody’s Golf (No.23).
