Ubisoft announced today that it is stopping production of physical toys for its toys-to-life game Starlink: Battle for Atlas. The modular toy technology was one of the main selling points for the game originally. However, due to sales that “fell below expectations”, they will be shutting that portion of the product down and focusing on digital content.

When announced, many thought Starlink was coming in too late to the toys-to-life craze. After all, games like Lego Dimensions and Disney Infinity had already shut down their servers. So it was not a surprise that when Starlink launched in October of last year for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One it didn’t exactly light the world on fire. That said, the game was a solid family title with fun and engaging gameplay. Plus, they put Star Fox back into a spaceship in the Nintendo Switch version.

Star Fox and his team’s inclusion was the second instance of the ongoing collaborative efforts between Ubisoft and Nintendo. And it seems to be a successful one. Starlink took to February’s Nintendo Direct to announce an April content update, saying it will be the “biggest update so far.”

So, it’s not all bad news for fans. You will still be getting those new Star Fox missions along with “a ton” of other content. However, you won’t have the option of buying a physical version of any of the new ships.

Starlink’s next content drop lets players play as Peppy, Falco, and Slippy in a new series of Star Fox missions. Fans can download it for the Nintendo Switch later this month.
