Square Enix revealed a new trailer and announced a demo for Trials of Mana. The demo will be launching on March 18 at 12:00 JST (click here for a time conversion table), on the PlayStation Store and Nintendo Eshop. Square Enix noted there might be a small difference between the time of the demo’s launch on both platforms. Update: As of now, the demo is already out on the French PS Store. Be sure to check out the  Mana Series‘ official English Twitter account to know when it’ll be available in USA.

Trials of Mana Demo

The Trials of Mana demo starts at the beginning of the game and lets you pick your protagonist and your two companions among the game’s playable characters: Duran, Angela, Charlotte, Kevin, Riesz, and Hawkeye. The demo covers your selected protagonist’s prologue, their meeting with Faerie and their first companion, and the beginning of their journey to Wendel, going through the cave guarded by the iconic Full Metal Haggar boss. In the original Snes game, I’d say that all of that was around one hour and a half of gameplay, which means it should be slightly longer in this remake.

Characters go above Level 7 in the demo. Saves from the Trials of Mana demo can be transferred to the full game.

Next up is Trials of Mana‘s final trailer ahead of release. The trailer features some of the battles against the eight Benevodons, one of which we’ve seen in detail recently. It’s also interesting to note Duran at the end of the trailer seems to have completely out of place lip-synch. However, remember that in many Japanese JRPG trailers, voiceovers different than the actual ingame ones are played during the scenes that are shown, so this could explain that.

The tweet revealing the trailer mentioned to watch until the end, as it teases new story development and elements exclusive to the remake, which we’ll cover soon in another article. Update: You can read about all that here.

As a reminder, this is a remake of Seiken Densetsu 3, released exclusively in Japan on Super Famicom/Snes in 1995. Seiken Densetsu 3 is the follow-up to Seiken Densetsu 2, known as Secret of Mana outside Japan. Seiken Densetsu 3 was officially translated as Trials of Mana and released outside Japan for the first time during E3 2019 via Collection of Mana on Nintendo Switch. The remake is also named Trials of Mana in the west. In Japan, the remake is titled Seiken Densetsu 3 Trials of Mana to differentiate it from the original Snes game.

Trials of Mana launches on April 24, 2020, on PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. It was first announced at E3 2019 along with some live gameplay.
