Torchlight II released in 2012 to critical and commercial success. Developer Runic Games then took a long break from the franchise to create and release 2017’s Hob. However, the team is now working with port studio Panic Button to put the game out on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. Watch the announce trailer below.
The game has been altered to make it more playable on a controller. They’ve made changes to how movement works to improve the console experience and have altered the interface to make it work on a controller. They’ve also put in a new targeting system that should vastly improve the console experience.
You can also expect updated achievements/trophies to earn and brand new pets that are exclusive to consoles. Neither of those is huge additions, but it does give veteran players another reason to jump back in on a new platform. Switch players get the added benefit of wireless play. Up to four players can connect multiple Nintendo Switch consoles together and enjoy the Torchlight world together.
It will be interesting to see if Panic Button is adding anything else to the game. Torchlight II came out seven years ago, so it would be nice to get a few new additions to make your purchase worth it. Currently, this is just a nostalgia piece. That might work for a game as good as Torchlight II; however, they could really knock this out of the part by adding some new content.
Torchlight II is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One on September 3. Stay with DualShockers for all the news coming out of E3.
