Them’s Fightin’ Herds from developer Mane6 and publisher Humble Bundle is a My Little Pony-inspired fighting game. It launched into early access in early 2018 but is almost ready for primetime. Alongside the reveal of a brand new story mode, the team announced that the game is moving into full release on April 2.

Them’s Fightin’ Herds is a four-button fighting game with a focus on mechanically-deep gameplay and adorable visuals. At first glance, it might seem a little too cutesy. However, in action, the game is fun to play with plenty of content to soak in. The team put a major focus of development on good Netcode and it shows in game. With the full release, the team is also adding in an intriguing story mode, that should keep fans busy for quite a while.

The story mode is more than just a series of boss battles. It actually adds in a few new modes to spice things up. You’ll need to explore dungeons and villages in a top-down world full of characters to chat with. While walking about, you’ll run into different minigames and challenges like “platforming courses, overworld minigames, and dungeon puzzles”. Heck, even the NPC conversations are fully fleshed out with branching dialogue. At the initial launch, the game will only include the first chapter of the story. As the team continues development, they plan to add more to the story, introduce new playable characters, and even start work on console ports. It’s an ambitious list of post-launch content, and it’ll be interesting to see how far they can take it.

Them’s Fightin’ Herds launches on PC April 2. If you want, you can go pick it up now in early access and get to fighting with those adorable ponies.
