Last fall, we got our first look at Daedalic Entertainment’s upcoming The Lord of the Rings: Gollum game. The first teaser didn’t reveal much. There was no gameplay to seen and minimal details shared. However, it certainly piqued the interest of fans. Yesterday, Daedalic had a few more Gollum-related announcements to make. Most notably, the game is being pushed back to 2022, but we also know that the dev team is partnering with Nacon to bring the title to market.

It’s an intriguing move from Nacon. The publisher looks to be greatly increasing its efforts in the space. They have Werewolf: The Apocalypse – Earthblood, Blood Bowl 3, and Vampire: The Masquerade -Swansong already on the books for 2021. Add in games without a release date like Session and Steelrising and you have quite the catalog on your hands.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum might be the biggest of them all. It’s certainly the biggest property they have on the books. Of course, we don’t know if Gollum‘s brand of exploration and stealth will actually be good just yet. However, I’m willing to give Daedalic the benefit of the doubt. After all, I put entirely too much time into Ken Follett’s The Pillars of the Earth back in 2017. Hopefully, they can knock this one out of the park as well.

Regardless, expect to start hearing more about what you’ll actually be doing in Gollum sometime later this year. Daedalic is based in Germany, so I think Gamescom (if it happens) makes a lot of sense for a big reveal.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is set to launch in 2022 on “Xbox and PlayStation consoles”, along with Nintendo Switch and PC. It’s not immediately clear if the game will come to PS4 and Xbox One, but it’s safe to say it’s at least coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X.
