With the original trilogy of films from Peter Jackson, The Hobbit trilogy, and an impending television series on the  way from Amazon, The Lord of the Rings franchise has continued to occupy a prominent space in the world of pop culture. However, developer Daedalic Entertainment is looking to bring a new game adaptation from a new perspective in the form of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

The Hollywood Reporter detailed that a new video game based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy series is officially in the works from Daedalic Entertainment, with the new title called The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. The game is currently in development on PC and aimed for a release in 2021, while the game will also be coming to “all relevant console platforms at that time.”

According to the report, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will take place prior to the events of The Lord of the Rings books, but during the time that Gollum came into possession of the titular One Ring. While details on the game itself are still vague, Daedalic’s details show that the game will be a narrative-driven adventure game.

While Gollum seems like it is still quite some time away, this will not be the only Lord of the Rings title on the way from Daedalic, as The Hollywood Reporter also detailed that Daedalic has more titles based on the franchise on the way in a partnership with Middle-Earth Enterprises, indicating that there are plenty more stories to tell (in video game form) based on the massively popular franchise.
