The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Wins Game of the Year in SXSW Gaming Awards

Last night, the 2018 winners of the SXSW Gaming Awards were announced. Over 500,000 gamers around the world cast their votes for the awards ceremony held in Austin, Texas. While there were no dominating winners this year like last year’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the two games with the most awards were The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds with three each.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won the prestigious awards of Excellence in Gameplay, Excellence in Design, and Video Game of the Year. The other big winner, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, won for Excellence in Multiplayer, Trending Game of the Year, and Esports Game of the Year.

  • VR Game of the Year: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • Tabletop Game of the Year: Gloomhaven
  • Mobile Game of the Year: Fire Emblem Heroes
  • Video Game of the Year: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
