After delaying The Last of Us Part II a few weeks back, Sony has today announced when the much-anticipated title will be coming to PS4.

In a new post on the PlayStation Blog, SIE Head of Worldwide Studio Hermen Hulst announced that Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part II will now be launching around the world on June 19, 2020.

In addition, Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima, which was scheduled to arrive in June, has now been pushed back a bit. The game’s new launch date is that of July 17, 2020. While Sony didn’t explicitly state the reason for this delay, it seems to be obvious that they wouldn’t want to release both PS4-exclusives to close to one another.

“I want to personally congratulate and thank both the teams at Naughty Dog and Sucker Punch Productions on their achievements, as we know it’s not an easy feat to reach the finish line under these circumstances,” Hulst said in his blog post. “Both teams have worked hard to deliver world-class experiences, and we can’t wait to see what you think of them when they release in just a few short months.”

Sony’s new announcement for a release date of The Last of Us Part II comes not long after a major leak for the game came about online. Over the weekend, plot details and other various cutscenes from TLOU2 appeared on the internet, meaning that spoilers are now running rampant. In light of these spoilers, many were worried about more than ever about The Last of Us Part II’s indefinite delay and began wondering how long they’d have to avoid plot details before potentially playing the game themselves. In all, the final delay for TLOU2 from its originally-scheduled date is only three weeks, which isn’t very extensive whatsoever.

The release dates for Sony’s upcoming exclusives were some of the biggest talking points for many the past few weeks in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Now with new launch days for each game, hopefully, Sony can hit both of these dates and then shift its focus to the upcoming PS5.
