Tango Gameworks and Bethesda Softworks released their horror game sequel The Evil Within 2 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One last October. The game received good reviews, as it improved on the divisive original in many ways. While the game typically plays out in third-person, a first-person mode has just been added to the game as part of a new update.

This means the entirety of The Evil Within 2 is now playable in first-person. This gives the game a ton of replayability, as something like a different perspective can drastically change how any given situation feels in-game. The option can also be toggled on and off at any time via an in-game menu, so players can choose to use both perspectives whenever they think they will be the most impactful.

Considering how popular first-person horror games like Outlast II and Resident Evil VII are, I am not surprised that the developers added the first-person perspective into the game to cater to a wider niche of horror game fans. Shinsaku Ohara, Producer at Tango Gameworks, commented on adding a first-person mode to The Evil Within 2:

“A lot of players like playing horror games in first-person, so for those who want to see some of the game’s situations through Sebastian’s eyes, it’s a really neat experience. I think exploring Union in first-person makes the scale feel even bigger than it does when you’re in third-person. Also, being able to see our environments and enemies up close allows players to get an even better look at how much effort went into their designs.”
