On March 14, Australian indie developer Samurai Punk released a virtual reality title called The American Dream. For those of you that do not know, The American Dream is an action adventure title that provides a satirical take on 1950s America and how life back then would be like if everything was done using nothing but firearms.

With that said, when the game first launched it was released digitally in North America for PlayStation VR via the PlayStation Store and was also available for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift via Steam. Of course, the game was also available in Europe — what you did not know, however, was that the game not only got a digital release in that particular region, but the game also received a physical version on the PlayStation 4 as well thanks to the title’s publisher, Perp Games.

Earlier this month during PAX East, I had the opportunity to speak with the director and programmer at Samurai Punk, Winston Tang, and I asked him why The American Dream was not physically released in North America, and he had this to say:

“Perp [Games] has been finding it difficult to find a US distributor due to the subject nature of the game… We’ve heard of a few occasions of the press being hesitant to cover the game due to the subject nature and the timing of the release, making it difficult to get the word out about the game.”

As of now, it is currently unknown whether or not The American Dream will receive a physical release in North American retail stores, but we’ll update you as this story continues to evolve. In the meantime, if you are interested in checking out the box art, you can see a couple of images below.

As mentioned previously, The American Dream is available now on HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, and PlayStation VR.
