Tencent Announces That Mobile Version of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds Is Coming to China

Today, Chinese publisher Tencent announced that a mobile port of the critically-acclaimed battle royale game PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is in the works.

According to the press release, the tech, media, and gaming powerhouse company will hold publishing rights to the mobile version, while the game’s developer PUBG Corp. will work on development. Tencent also confirmed that the development for the mobile version of the popular shooter is “ongoing smoothly.” Despite no official word on when the game will drop on Android and iOS devices, Chinese consumers can expect this port to launch soon.

Originally released on March 23 of this year as an Early Access title, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is an online battle royale game developed and published by PUBG Corp., a subsidiary of Bluehole Studios. Last week, Tencent announced that they won the publishing rights for the Chinese version and would make some slight alterations to the game for the local market.

Currently, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is available as an Early Access title on Steam. However, a full release is anticipated later this year. An Xbox One version is coming on December 12 via Microsoft’s Xbox Game Preview Program.
