With a new month comes some new NES games for Nintendo Switch. Super Mario Bros. 2 and Kirby’s Adventure are next in line for Nintendo Switch Online—Nintendo Entertainment System. Yes, that service name is still annoying to type every time. The two titles will arrive in the middle of February.

Nintendo fans should undoubtedly be familiar with both of these titles, given how many times they have been rereleased. Super Mario Bros. 2, of course, was basically an iteration of the Japanese title Doki Doki Panic, with the “real,” infamously difficult Super Mario Bros. 2 eventually coming to the West as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.

Despite being a far cry from the first Super Mario Bros., and even Mario Bros. and Donkey Kong before it, this refashioned title still had an impact on the Super Mario games to come afterward. Most significantly it established some key physical differences between Luigi and Mario, and being the first game to have Princess Peach as a playable character, gave her the ability to float. Shy Guys are also a staple to the series now, and the ability to pull items out of the ground and throw them have returned in some modern games.

Kirby’s Adventure is the second mainline Kirby game from HAL Laboratory and director Masahiro Sakurai, following Kirby’s Dream Land on the Game Boy. Believe it or not, this second game is actually the first in the series to feature Kirby’s copy ability, which has become a permanent fixture to the character since then. Smash Bros. fans will undoubtedly recognize Sakurai as the creator and director of the Super Smash Bros. series as well.

Most recently, the service added Zelda II, another unusual NES sequel, and Blaster Master to the growing library. At some point, the service may begin to add SNES games, as indicated by rumors pointing towards the possibility. The amount of exclusive content is slowly trickling in—hopefully with so many subscribers now, Switch owners can expect more to come.

Super Mario Bros. 2 and Kirby’s Adventure will be playable through Nintendo Switch Online starting February 13.
