Thunder Lotus, the developer behind Jotun, released a beautiful looking Metroidvania called Sundered for PC and PS4. The game was received well at launch, even earning itself a 9.5 from DualShockers, but has only received a few major updates since. Now, about a year and a half since its initial launch, Thunder Lotus has revealed Sundered: Eldritch Edition. This enhanced version of the game will include local co-op and is poised to arrive on December 21 for Nintendo Switch and Xbox One.

PC and PS4 owners of the Metroidvania don’t have to worry though as the enhancements that are in the Xbox One and Switch ports of Sundered: Eldritch Edition at launch will come to the previously released versions of the game via the Magnate of the Gong Update on the same date, December 21.

Sundered: Eldritch Edition and its accompanying Magnate of the Gong Update add new elements to the core game’s Metroidvania experience, namely local four-player co-op. Sundered was already a fun and atmospheric experience, so it will definitely be satisfying to share that with friends.

A new quest chain and some new areas have also been added and climax with a fight against a new boss. Will Dubé, President of Thunder Lotus and Creative Director of Sundered: Eldritch Edition, went into a bit more depth as to why the developers decided add several new features and content alongside the release of the Switch and Xbox One ports:

“We really wanted to bring something special to the table for the launch on the new consoles. Plus, we’d been wanting to bring multiplayer to our games for a long time. It’s cool to see how well the local co-op integrates into the core Sundered experience in Eldritch Edition. It’s a great opportunity for existing players to dive back into the game as well!”

You can check out the launch trailer for Sundered: Eldritch Edition, which highlights the new co-op feature, below. If you want to play the game but don’t want to wait, the base version of Sundered is currently available on PC and PS4. On the other hand, those of you who are keen on the Nintendo Switch version can now pre-purchase Sundered: Eldritch Edition on the Nintendo eShop.
