One of the best and most notable indie titles of 2017 was SteamWorld Dig 2 from Image & Form. This Metroidvania mining game has a ton of charm and addicting gameplay, which resulted in critical acclaim. DualShockers’ Editor-in-Chief Lou Contaldi gave the game a ton of praise in his review, and I agree with pretty much everything he said in there. That’s why I was happy to hear today that SteamWorld Dig 2 will be receiving a physical release on PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
This physical release is the result of a partnership between developer Image & Form Games and publisher Rising Star Games. Outside of the physical disc/cartridge for SteamWorld Dig 2, the game’s physical release will also include a double-sided poster and reversible cover art, both of which feature never before seen art.
The physical edition of SteamWorld Dig 2 only has a vague Spring 2018 release window, which means we should expect it sometime between March and June. Fortunately, the game will be available physically in both North America and Europe, so most fans can get in on the fun. Brjann Sigurgeirsson, CEO at Image & Form, also commented on release a physical version of SteamWorld Dig 2:
“We’re totally humbled by the community’s reaction to SteamWorld Dig 2. This latest SteamWorld adventure is a milestone, and we’re naturally very proud of it. Many fans are now asking for a physical release, so it makes me very happy to be able to partner up with Rising Star Games for a boxed version. We’re also excited that additional exclusive items will be included as well!”
This is the latest in a string of Image & Form related news. After releasing SteamWorld Heist on Nintendo Switch last December, they have merged with Zoink Games to form parent company Thunderful Games and ported the original SteamWorld Dig over to Nintendo Switch.
