State of Decay 2 Comes to Steam in Early 2020 Announces Undead Labs

Undead Labs, the team behind the State of Decay series, announced today that they’ll be bringing State of Decay 2 to Steam early next year. The game originally released on PC (via the Windows store) and Xbox One in May 2018. Undead Labs also had a staggered release with the first game in the series, but the delay was much smaller.

The first State of Decay launched on Xbox 360 in June 2013. The PC release followed on Steam just a few months later in December. State of Decay 2 has a much longer delay between the original release and the Steam launch, which makes sense given how hard Microsoft has been pushing their play-anywhere initiative. That said, it is a little surprising that Steam players have been waiting for over a year for this to drop.

Of course, everything is always better late than never. Undead Labs found a great audience on Steam last time and hopefully the same will happen this go-around. Fortunately, regardless of where you play it, State of Decay 2 will let you play with anyone. Whether you play through Steam, the Windows store, or Xbox One, the game will allow cross-play for you and up to three friends.

State of Decay 2‘s Steam release doesn’t yet have a firm release date. However, Undead Labs has a livestream running on November 25 (next Monday) that promises to reveal more details. For now, all we know is that the game will be coming to Steam in early 2020. If you can’t wait, the game is available now on PC and Xbox One, along with being available on Xbox Game Pass.
