Starbreeze Files for Reconstruction as CEO Steps Down Following Dismal Release of Overkill’s The Walking Dead

Publisher Starbreeze had a lot on the line when Overkill’s The Walking Dead released early last month and unfortunately, it seems the company’s bet didn’t pay off. The game’s launch was so poor that as of this morning, Starbreeze has announced a variety of new changes that will be taking place moving forward.

Starbreeze CEO Bo Andersson announced earlier today that he will be leaving his position with the company. Further, both Andersson and Kristofer Arwin have resigned from the publisher’s Board of Directors, a change that has taken immediate effect.

In the pursuit to become financially stable for the long haul once again after seeing the new projections for Overkill’s The Walking Dead through January 2019, Starbreeze and it’s subsidiaries–Starbreeze Publishing, Starbreeze Production, Starbreeze Studios, Enterspace, and Enterspace International–has also filed for reconstruction with the Stockholm District Court. During this span, “no payments can be made to suppliers for services or goods relating to the period prior to the date of filing for reconstruction.”

It is worth noting though that salaries to current employees at Starbreeze and day-to-day operations will still continue as normal. Additionally, financial targets for Q4 2018 and 2020 have been thrown out.

Clearly, Starbreeze needs a killer app sooner rather than later and it will be interesting to see the moves that are taken by the publisher over these next few months. With Payday 3 officially in production, that game’s reveal and release might be something that they’ll want to now get out the door as fast as possible.
