Star Wars Cosplayer Receives a Busted Nose and Arrested for Holding Plastic Gun

The world of cosplay is an amazing and exciting place to be apart of, even if you’re just an outsider looking in at all the talent and recognizing your favorite character strutting around in front of you. It’s a tough business too, constantly pushing yourself to be the best not to mention how much work goes into those costumes but what if you were dressed as a Stormtrooper, promoting your local restaurant for Star Wars Day on May 4 and ended up being forced to the ground and arrested because the cops thought you had a real gun? That’s precisely what happened to a woman in Lethbridge, Canada after she was reported by passers-by.

The employee for Coco Vanilla Galactic Cantina, a pop culture pub-style pizza and donair shop, had arrived to work and quickly got into her Stormtrooper outfit ready to celebrate Star Wars Day. After waving to people walking up and down the road, some stopping to get their pictures with the stormtrooper, unknowing members of the public apparently became frightened by the cosplayer’s plastic toy blaster rifle and ended up calling the local cops believing it was a real gun and obviously (somehow) had never seen a Stormtrooper before.

Of course, as you can guess, this wasn’t going to end too well with the police then showing up with their guns drawn and ordered the woman to first drop her “weapon” and then told to get onto the ground. Shaken up and confused, the employee/cosplayer threw down the toy blaster rifle but because of how restricted her Stormtrooper outfit is, she couldn’t get to the ground immediately. Frustrated, the cops took matters into their own hands by rushing over to the employee and pushing her to the concrete where she ended up getting a busted nose with blood seeping across the ground. Even though the cops knew at this stage that the gun wasn’t actually real, they still handcuffed her and put her into a van.

Even though gun crime is serious in any situation and shouldn’t be taken lightly, it seems that in this circumstance the matter was blown out of all proportion and who the hell doesn’t know what a Stormtrooper is? Especially given that it was being promoted all over the outside of the restaurant including Star Wars music blasting around the parking lot. Regardless, the matter is now under investigation and I hope the woman can recover well from this, maybe send those cops the Star Wars Trilogy.

In some other less scary Star Wars news, over on the PlayStation Blog, Electronic Arts has proven to be the big winner on the digital charts for October with FIFA 21 and Star Wars: Squadrons being the top-sellers on the North American PS Store. If you didn’t get the chance to play Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order when it released last year, players who subscribe to EA Play will get to enjoy the game as part of their subscription which started on November 10. Released earlier this month, Star Wars: Squadrons gave fans of the long-running franchise the chance to once again hop into the cockpit of fan-favorite Star Wars ships and fighters, and those who are enjoying the game will have seen new content last month that included a Baby Yoda bobblehead.

Star Wars: Squadrons is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
