Star Wars Battlefront II’s New Progression System Brings Changes to Loot Boxes, Microtransactions, and More

Ever since Star Wars Battlefront II hit store shelves, the game has been mired in controversy, mostly due to the fact that the game’s progression was entirely centered around loot crates. Finally, almost four months after developer EA DICE turned off microtransactions, it has unveiled its new plan the game, and it seems like it will please most players.

Fist and foremost, anything that affects gameplay like Star Cards can now only be earned through gameplay, and can no longer be found in loot boxes, which was one of the main complaints from fans. As you play, you’ll earn experience for each ship, class, and hero you play as. Once you accumulate enough experience, you’ll gain a level, as well as one Skill Point, which can be used on new Star Cards.

In addition to that, Loot Crates can no longer be purchased with any type of currency, both real-world and in-game. With these changes, they can only be earned via daily log-ins, challenges, and other gameplay-based accomplishments.

Finally, soon after these changes take effect, you’ll be able to directly purchase cosmetic items like new costumes for heroes and troopers via in-game credits and Crystal, the in-game currency that can be purchased with real-world money.

Of course, EA DICE also confirmed that players won’t lose any of the items that they’ve obtained since launch, so you won’t have to worry about starting over.

All of these changes, besides the new cosmetic items, will go into effect in just a couple of days, on March 21, 2018. The former will go live sometime in early April.

Star Wars Battlefront II was originally released on November 21, 2017, and is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
