Spring is a very special season in Japanese culture, representing renewal. It’s when the school year starts, in April, and it’s also the season of mass hiring for most Japanese companies. As we entered the season a few days ago, multiple Japanese game companies announced positions they’re recruiting for, at the same time giving us a glimpse of their future projects. This is how we learned for example, that Monolith Soft is deeply involved in the development of a new The Legend of Zelda game.

April 1st also marks the beginning of the new fiscal year, meaning more recruitment drives are announced. And today, Square Enix renewed the recruitment page for Final Fantasy VII Remake and announced through it that Naoki Hamaguchi is now the Co-Director of the project.

Naoki Hamaguchi was already pivotal to the Final Fantasy VII Remake development team, as he was appointed Project Lead in 2017. He is now an even more important figure of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Previously, Naoki Hamaguchi worked on Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII as a Main Programmer, and on Mobius Final Fantasy, a mobile game which was later released on Steam.

Both Mobius Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy VII Remake share a Producer, Yoshinori Kitase, and Final Fantasy VII Remake‘s Cloud is also included in Mobius Final Fantasy as a crossover between the two games.

Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released someday, hopefully soon, on PS4. In their 2019 New Year’s greeting messages in Famitsu magazine, Director Tetsuya Nomura and Yoshinori Kitase indirectly teased that big new announcements will be coming in 2019 for Final Fantasy VII Remake.
