Golf Story remains one of my favorite games on the Nintendo Switch. Sidebar Games perfectly captures that classic Mario Golf arcade gameplay and adds a wacky story that makes it one of the best golf games you can play. Golf Story dabbled with other sports, notably disc golf, but Sidebar is looking to blow that out of the water with their newest game Sports Story. The game had a debut trailer today at Nintendo’s Indie World Stream, which DualShockers covered in detail. That said, if you missed the post, check out the trailer below.

Sports Story takes the characters and gameplay from Golf Story and adds so much more. In the trailer, we can see tennis, volleyball, and soccer. There’s also a scene where the player is using either a baseball or cricket bat to knock toasters into next week. Basically, there’s a ton to sink your teeth into with just this short trailer. Sidebar is also promising several non-sporting activities like dungeon exploration, stealthy infiltrations, and fishing expeditions.

On top of all that is the wacky narrative Sidebar is quickly becoming known for. Sports Story will take you on a journey through diverse locales where you’ll meet tons of interesting characters and get yourself into silly hijinks. It all adds up to a package that sounds like the best sports game coming next year.

This feels like a game that Sidebar Games built specifically for me. It takes everything I love about Golf Story and stuffs it full of even more content. I mean, Golf Story was already a near-perfect game for me, and you’re telling me the team is going to add even more sports? This sounds amazing.

Now, of course, throwing in tennis, volleyball, and the like could make the game feel a little bloated. However, I’m confident that Sidebar will take what they learned developing Golf Story and make a great sequel. I’m particularly excited about some of the side events they’re including. How exactly are they going to merge their golf game with dungeon exploration and espionage? Frankly, I have no idea, but I cannot wait to find out.

Sports Story will release on Nintendo Switch in mid-2020. If you haven’t played through Golf Story already, I highly, highly suggest you pick it up for your Nintendo Switch. It’s one of my favorite games on the platform.
