Capcom has in recent years decided to return to the popular Resident Evil games of yesteryear and remake them from the ground up. This trend kicked off last year with the release of Resident Evil 2 and continued this year when Resident Evil 3 hit store shelves. Just how do these new remakes sit with some of the former developers who worked on the original games though? Well, according to the father of the RE saga, he has no problems with it.

In a conversation with IGNResident Evil creator Shinji Mikami expressed that he supports these new remakes of the classic Resident Evil titles under one condition: that they are good. When asked about Capcom’s rumored remake of Resident Evil 4, the original game being one that Mikami directed, the famed creator said that he has no problems with it being made whatsoever. “As long as it turns out good I have no issues with it,” Mikami simply stated.

Speaking to some of the other recent RE remakes that had been released, Mikami seemed to not have much to say, possibly because he hasn’t paid too much attention to them. “I saw a video of the Resident Evil 2 Remake and I thought it was very good,” Mikami said. “I think they’re going to continue to remake these games since they’re selling well.” While yet to be formally announced, Mikami’s comments seem to be correct as Capcom is said to be toiling away on the remake of RE4 right now. Meanwhile, other rumors indicate that the Japanese publisher is also set to release Resident Evil 8 in the future, too.

As for what Mikami is working on next, his team at Tango Gameworks is currently toiling away on Ghostwire: Tokyo. No potential release window or platforms for this project have yet been given, but it stands to reason that we could learn more soon.

And in the realm of Resident Evil, the latest installment in the series, Resident Evil 3, is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
