Atlus really enjoys their remakes. In their defense, they not only make their games prettier the second time around, but they typically add gameplay elements and even new characters into the story. The title Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux is no different, getting a major facelift while being ported to the Nintendo 3DS. Today, this facelift finally gets a release date.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux will release in America on May 15, 2018. The redux will feature new story beats, new illustrations by Masayuki Doi, and even a brand-new character named Alex. The visuals have also been tuned up and the UI has been tweaked for better precision.

Atlus has stated that the game won’t feel like a retreading of old ground, because the new addition, Alex, will play a major role in how the story unfolds. Her background is a mystery, but she clearly has an interest in the protagonists, even if it’s nefarious. They’ve also promised a new dungeon and multiple different endings to bring Alex into the narrative.

The premise of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux, as told by Atlus:

“A spatial distortion full of demons appeared in Antarctica, threatening to engulf the Earth in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey. The United Nations responded by tasking a team of highly advanced specialists with piercing the anomaly and figuring out how to stop it from the source. Well, get ready to don your Demonica once again in this new, expanded port. Expect new story content, additional endings, a new dungeon to explore, and more in the return of this sci-fi tinged SMT adventure.”

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey was originally released in 2010 on the Nintendo DS. Strange Journey Redux will release on May 15, 2018, on the Nintendo 3DS. It can be pre-ordered now for anyone interested.. In other Atlus remake news, Catherine: Full Body has also been announced with a third C/Katherine.
