Today Ys Net released a new update for its Shenmue III Kickstarter campaign, and it’s certainly an interesting one.

First of all, we learned that the crowdfunding campaign for the game has finally passed seven million dollars thanks to post-Kickstarter pledges on PayPal. This means another stretch goal unlocked, and the “AI Battling” battle system feature will be implemented.

The concept provides some help for those who aren’t very familiar with fighting games or want a fully immersive combat experience. It basically lets the player activate the perfect technique at any given time based on the opponent’s position and distance. Yu Suzuki himself demonstrated this for us during our interview a while ago.

Perhaps the best thing is that we get to see a work-in-progress screenshot showing it in action, and boy, this looks really, really good. You can see it at the bottom of the post.

Incidentally, we also get the promise that the physical versions of the game will come with all the data required to play, and won’t be just a prompt to start a digital download.

Shenmue III has been semi-recently delayed to 2019 for PS4 and PC. Looking at the screenshots below, it certainly seems it was worth it.
