Sea of Thieves Shows Small Ships, the Brig and Nonverbal Communication in New Video

Today Rare released a new video of Sea of Thieves, showing off the features that was presented last week during a dedicated panel at New York Comic Con.

First of all, Executive Producer Joe Neate and Senior Designer Shelley Preston talk about how the team wanted to create an online game without sparking preconceptions among players, that often give this kind of title a stigma. In order to achieve that, the team made the bond among crew members sacred and unbreakable, while the risk factor comes only from other crews.

Tying into that, the brig system lets players vote another crew member that is being disruptive into the brig. This is a peculiar system that gives the affected player a chance to see the error in his ways, and correct them (possibly being readmitted into the crew) instead of being kicked outright.

We also take a look at nonverbal communication, that lets players use a situational wheel menu to select different sentence that will be displayed in a chat log at the top left of the screen. The content of the wheel varies depending on what you’re doing, and this should enable players that for one reason or another can’t talk, to still cooperate effectively with their crew.

Last, but certainly not least, we see for the first time the smaller ships that are made to be controlled by two players.
