A little under two years after initially releasing, developer Rare has today announced an impressive new milestone for its open world pirate-themed adventure game Sea of Thieves.
As of today, Sea of Thieves has now officially accumulated over 10 million players since releasing back in March of 2018. This total is accumulated from those who bought the game on both Xbox One and PC, in addition to those who played it for free via Xbox Game Pass. It’s likely that Game Pass, in particular, opened up Sea of Thieves to a much wider audience than it would’ve reached previously. In fact, Sea of Thieves was one of the original first-party titles that was immediately added to Game Pass when it launched.

To every person who’s played Sea of Thieves, thank you.”
While Sea of Thieves got out of the gate a bit slowly at launch, Rare has only continued to add more and more to the experience over time. Since releasing, the game has gone on to be loaded with content that has kept many players entertained for countless hours.
In fact, the next update for Sea of Thieves is set to roll out next week on January 15. The update, which is called Legends of the Seas will be free for all players and is said to celebrate the game’s community. If you log-in to the game from January 15 through the 22nd, you’ll receive a free custom sail and emote that celebrates this new 10 million player marker that Sea of Thieves has reached.
