Sea of Thieves Gets New Video About NPCs and How Players can Influence the Lore

Rare released a new behind-the-scenes video of its upcoming shared-world adventure game Sea Of Thieves.

The video stars Design Director Mike Chapman and Software Engineer Topher Winward as they talk about NPCs.

While the technical alpha had the NPCs of the same type looking pretty much the same across the board, in the live game each will have his or her own looks, personality, and backstory.

Interestingly, changes will be made to NPC dialogue after release to reference what is happening in the world at the time, for instance talking about a current live campaign.

Another element of the system is that it can change objects as well. So for instance, you may find a book with a treasure map that will give you a new emergent quest, and the next person that comes along and finds that book, actually won’t find the map, because it has already been taken.

Interestingly, the players will also influence the lore, and their stories will be written in books and documents that will be included in the world for others (or themselves) to find.
