Nicalis announced they will be publishing the retro-inspired action-adventure game Save me Mr Tako: Tasukete Tako-San in the west for Nintendo Switch and PC in the fourth quarter of 2017.

Save me Mr Tako: Tasukete Tako-San is set in a world where humans and octopi are at war with each other. However, the game’s story focuses on a pacifist octopus, Mr Tako, who decides to rescue a drowning women. An “octopus fairy” notices Mr Tako’s good deed and grants him the ability to live above the water and learn the ways of the humans in an effort to resolve the differences between the two species and bring peace to the world.

The game features Game Boy style graphics that gamers who grew up in the 90’s will remember fondly of. Players will navigate Mr Tako through 2D environments and launch ink at enemies, which will turn them into platforms and allow him to gain access to out of reach areas. Additionally, he can find a total of 50 different hats throughout the game that will give him special abilities, fight 19 bosses, and explore 16 dungeons through six worlds.

Save me Mr Tako: Tasukete Tako-San was designed by French indie developer Christophe Galati as an ode to Nintendo’s original Game Boy. The color palette in the game are directly inspired by the handheld’s visual capability.
