Sega held the 14th Sakura Wars stream on June 19. The stream featured as usual: MC Mami Yamashita, Seijuro Kamiyama’s seiyuu Yohei Azakami, and Producer Tetsu Katano. Present as guests were Kenji Akabane, who is the seiyuu of Kaminsky Valery in Shin Sakura Taisen The Animation, and Sakura Taisen composer Kohei Tanaka.

The stream mainly focused on Shin Sakura Taisen The Animation, whose final episode aired the same day. One interesting point are the words shared by everyone as the stream ended.

Kohei Tanaka said he wants to keep making Sakura Taisen songs forever, and he’s sad the anime ended so fast. He actually pointed out how at the first meetings for the anime’s production, he asked if they could make it into a 2 cour anime (24-26 episodes) but that wasn’t possible for various reasons. Kohei Tanaka hopes there will be more Sakura Taisen coming soon, and said there might be, seeing the anime’s ending. This turned out true, as the anime’s final episode, which aired right after the stream, teased more to come with a stinger-like ending.

However, the biggest hint toward a sequel is by far Producer Tetsu Katano’s words as the stream ended. As linked at the 1:39:32 mark above, he said:

Tetsu Katano: “We went through the answers from the survey we sent players. Nearly every player said in the survey that if there’s a sequel, they’ll buy it. That’s an incredible stimulus for us. Sakura (Amamiya) always says she’ll never ever give up, and we always feel the same way… That’s all I can say.”

Tetsu Katano also added that they’ll keep asking Kohei Tanaka for Sakura Wars songs in the future.

It’s also important to note that on April 16, 2020, Sega registered trademarks for:

Sakura Wars Black

Sakura Wars Restoration
Sakura Wars Revolution

The trademarks were made public on May 12, 2020, but time didn’t permit me to write about it back then. Except for B.L.A.C.K., these are all listed for video games-related categories.  Nothing is certain as there’s the possibility these trademarks will never be used. It does mean Sega is definitely thinking about more Sakura Wars games though. Collabs for the game and now the anime haven’t stopped and show no sign of stopping either. The same can be said when it comes to new goods.

Moreover, Sakura Wars streams have an history of the staff purposefully acting as if they said something they shouldn’t on stream, in order to tease things. On the very first stream, they acted as if they forgot to talk about “Shangai”, teasing the reveal of the Shanghai Combat Revue on the next stream. The following stream, Producer Katano acted a lapsus, saying “London” instead of “Dondon” (more and more in Japanese) teasing the London Combat Revue.

Live Japanese TV shows, streams, seiyuu radio shows and the like are all meticulously scripted, but they acted those “slip-ups” so well I was fooled. Until they outright said one stream they couldn’t find a good joke for Berlin and outright said the next stream would reveal the Berlin Combat Revue. Anyway, what I mean to say is Tetsu Katano definitely didn’t say these teasing words coincidentally.

Sega’s Toshihiro Nagoshi previously spoke on Sakura Wars‘ sales and mentioned Sega will make more full voice games in the future. It’s highly likely a tentative Shin Sakura Taisen 2 will be fully voiced.
