Marvelous revealed new information on Rune Factory 5 today on the Rune FaChannel stream. The stream featured multiple Japanese streamers and Marvelous producer Maikawa. Let’s get this out of the way first: The new information concerning Rune Factory 5 is how players will have “something extremely nice” happening in Rune Factory 5 by linking their save data from Rune Factory 4 Special. But we don’t know what this “extremely nice” thing is yet.

The stream went over the Rune Factory series, and new information on Rune Factory 4 Special was shared as well.

While each game in the series already got separate artbooks and goods, it’s the first time a Rune Factory game gets a Limited Edition like Rune Factory 4 Special. You can check it out here.

All the graphics and artwork of the game have been remade in HD.

The new “Newlywed Mode”, the honeymoon side stories you can unlock, are selectable from the title menu, and each story has an actual ending.

Rune Factory 4 Special has a new difficulty mode titled “Hell Mode” which is even harder than Hard Mode from the original 3DS game. Hard Mode not only had the enemies with higher status, but their AI was also modified, so game streamer Hira asked a pretty interesting question: if the enemies and especially bosses will get new special attacks in “Hell Mode”. Producer Maikawa didn’t answer and said more details will be coming later. And of course, Rune Factory 4 Special has an easy mode too.

Marvelous made a brand new opening movie animation and song for Rune Factory 4 Special.

Besides the new “Newlywed stories”, Rune Factory 4 Special also has a new mode titled “Another Story” selectable from the title menu. It’ll be detailed at a later date.

Rune Factory 4 Special has 20 save slots in total for a single Nintendo Switch profile.

Lastly, a new trailer for Rune Factory 4 Special was shown as well, you can find it below. The trailer also showcases the new opening song. More than an hour of Rune Factory 4 Special gameplay was shown too on stream starting the 33:30 mark, you can find it below the trailer.

Rune FaChannel will be a regular program, and another stream should be coming around next month with new information.

Rune Factory 4 Special is a Switch HD remake of Rune Factory 4 on 3DS. It was announced in February and will release in Japan on July 25. The game will come in “late 2019” in the west. Rune Factory 5 has been announced for a 2020 release in Japan on Switch.
