According to Capcom’s “platinum titles,” Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has climbed the list to become their second best selling game of all-time, landing below Monster Hunter: World with 7.9 million units sold. While it may not ever surpass Monster Hunter‘s daunting 16.1 million sales, it’s impressive that a horror game was able to sell nearly 8 million copies because they often times have a hard time being made and reaching mass appeal.

It’s not a total surprise that Resident Evil 7 was able to do so well, though. Out of the other nine entries on the platinum titles list, four of them are Resident Evil games. In fact, numbers two, three, four, and five are all games from the franchise, each selling at least 7 million units despite some of them receiving mixed reviews.

Take all those numbers with a grain of salt though. The platinum titles list doesn’t count different ports as the same game. This means that the recent Switch port of Resident Evil 4 is counted as a separate game as the PS2 version. As many Resident Evil games have been ported to multiple different consoles, the numbers on the platinum titles list aren’t entirely accurate.

The Resident Evil series is massively popular and the hype surrounding the upcoming Resident Evil: Village means that it’s unclear how long Resident Evil 7 will be sitting in the top slot for the series. Additionally, the rumored Resident Evil 4 remake would also sell extremely well due to the high demand for the game. Even though it didn’t make the platinum titles list due to its many releases and portsResident Evil 4 is estimated to have sold at least 8 million units.

If you haven’t already, make sure to pick up a copy of Resident Evil 7  out now on Xbox One, Playstation 4, and PC. If you haven’t picked up the game yet you can grab a physical copy on Amazon to help support DualShockers.
