Japan has pretty peculiar traditions and legislation about censorship of violence, so horror games often get significant cuts. Repeating the initiative taken for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the Japanese launch of Resident Evil 2 will include two different versions with different amounts of graphic violence.

The standard version, titled Biohazard RE: 2 will have a CERO D rating, which means suitable for seventeen years olds. The “adult” version, will be titled Biohazard RE: 2 Z Version. The name simply reflects the fact that this edition will have a CERO Z rating, meaning 18+.

Pre-orders will begin on August 10th and both versions will launch on January 25th exactly like in the west for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Only the PS4 versions will get a physical release locally, and in the gallery below you can see the two different covers.

The Collector’s Edition will be similar to the one announced for the west with the difference that the soundtrack will be on a physical CD instead of digital. In the gallery, you can also take a better look at the statue of Leon kennedy that will be included.

Last, but not least, those who pre-order will get the Samurai Edge Chris and Jill model guns.
