In nearly every horror game, darkness plays a pivotal role in creating and fostering fear with a player. But can an entire game be balanced in darkness? That is what developer Gattai Games hopes to accomplish in their newly-revealed PS VR exclusive Stifled. And according to them, the game will be heading to PS4 right on time for Halloween.

When we say the darkness is absolute, there is a bit of an exception — the game uses echolocation from real-life sounds picked up by your microphone. In other words, “Yes, you won’t be able to play this with friends and you will be making a lot of clicking noises.” Meanwhile, the world is illuminated in what looks like reversed paper-sketches — all black backgrounds with minimalist lines.

But now the terrifying bit. Not only will you be using the microphone sounds to illuminate the environments around you, but you will need to avoid tipping off enemies to your location. The result is a horrifying mix of “Do I risk stumbling through the darkness, or can I afford to tip off nearby enemies?”

According to the PlayStation Blog post on the gameStifled has been in active development for over three years. As mentioned, the game comes exclusive to PS4 (via PS VR) on October 31, 2017. You can check out some early photos
