We are less than a month out from the release of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! for Nintendo Switch, and there’s still quite a bit we don’t know about. While Game Freak has spent a long time showing earlier areas off and highlighting some of the changes they have made to make the games more accessible, we haven’t seen as much of the later parts of the games.
That has begun to change a bit though, with the game’s latest trailer showcasing legendary Pokémon Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, and Mewtwo. Today, we received yet another trailer showcasing one of the game’s most interesting post-game features: Master Trainers.
After earning all eight gym badges and becoming Pokémon League Champion, several “Master Trainers” specializing in just one Pokémon will pop up all across Kanto. From pre-evolutions like Pidgey, Sandshrew, Psyduck, to the fully evolved starter Pokémon Charizard, Blastoise, and Venasaur, all 151 Pokémon from Generation I will be represented by a Master Trainer. This Pokémon will be the only one the Master Trainer uses.
While Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! seem like, for the most part, they will be easy romps, Master Trainers look like they will offer a glimpse at a decent challenge in the post-game. Battles with them are 1v1, no items can be used, and their Pokémon have odd moves not usually learned by them for coverage purposes.
Ever since the reveal of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! back in May, the response to it from the hardcore community has been quite tepid. Many have deemed the game too accessible and easy-looking to provide a real challenge. While the removal of some staple features may still hamper its competitive community, it does seem like the developers are giving those players some tougher battles to overcome after they reach the post-game.
