As you may have seen all over Twitter, it’s International Women’s Day today and to celebrate Sony PlayStation has this prominent occasion by releasing a new, free PS4 theme that celebrates some of its most reputable female gaming characters. The beautiful theme is available to all PlayStation 4 owners across the globe as of today, March 8th.

Unfortunately, the theme itself is a static one and not a fancy dynamic one but nonetheless its bright colors that hold the faces of some of PlayStation’s most legendary beloved female protagonists that include Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn, Kara from Detroit: Become Human, Chloe and Nadine from Uncharted and Kat from Gravity Rush, Ellie from The Last of Us, Atoi from Tearaway, Sackgirl from Little Big Planet, Lady Maria from Bloodborne and some adorable little characters from Dreams.

If you’re wondering where the hell some other amazing ladies like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider, Ciri from The Witcher or Senua from Hellblade are, there is a very good explanation for it. The reason purely is because they aren’t PlayStation exclusives – there’s no crazy conspiracy going on by not including them.

PlayStation has also released a YouTude video called ‘Balance for Better – Celebrating International Women’s Day 2019’ that showcase some of the highly talented women that work in the games industry today. It starts out with women from companies like Naughty Dog, Guerrilla Games and Sony Santa Monica talking about the first game they have ever played and then goes on to talk about how vital it has been for women to be included in the mechanics of the PlayStation gaming universe – notably how important it is to have women’s thoughts and values incorporated into the games everyone plays.

You can check out the video below, it’s a really interesting watch.

The free PlayStation International Women’s Day theme is available worldwide right now from the PlayStation Store.
