The idea of Blizzard games on Nintendo Switch used to be an absurdity, but a recent confirmation of Diablo II on the platform has changed the conversation. In a Gamespot interview, Diablo III senior producer Pete Sitwell spoke candidly about his opinions on Overwatch and StarCraft II potentially coming to Nintendo’s hybrid console.

Overwatch has long been on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, but when asked about a potential Switch port, Sitwell offered a somewhat vague statement.

“Anything is within the realm of possibility. Our team was given the task to work on this [Diablo III]. If [Overwatch developer] Team 4 picks up that endeavour, that’s on them. As of right now Diablo is our only focus on Switch.”

When asked if Overwatch could even run on the Switch, Sitwell claimed that it was feasible—but as Sitwell pointed out, though he, in particular, may now have some Switch development experience, at the end of the day he is a producer for Diablo speaking about a game under the watch of a different team at Blizzard.

Sitwell also speculated about the idea of StarCraft II making a similar jump to Switch as Diablo III—although in this case, he appeared less confident.

“The N64 version of StarCraft was cool but you had to change the game quite a bit to make it work properly on console. StarCraft 2 is next level requirements from how much dexterity you need with a mouse and keyboard, so I think that would have been a very difficult port. It would have [to] change the core gameplay.”

While Diablo III had the luxury of already being ported to consoles, the same could not be said for StarCraft 2. Still, this is speculation on Sitwell’s part.

Blizzard obviously hasn’t announced anything official regarding Overwatch on Switch—it’ll come when and if the team behind the game wants to put the work in. Blizzard is already busy enough with the Diablo III port, which will be arriving sometime in 2018. Meanwhile, the Summer Games 2018 event is still underway for Overwatch.
