In a blog post last week, Respawn Entertainment and EA teased that a lot of work was being done to eradicate cheaters from their popular battle royale game Apex Legends. In a recent post on Reddit, the game’s Community Managers revealed just how many cheaters have been caught, banned, or blocked, and the numbers are quite staggering.
According to Respawn Entertainment, the number of total Apex Legends bans is currently at 770,000 on PC alone. 300k suspicious account creations have been blocked and 4,000 “cheat seller accounts” have been banned as well. These bans encompass a massive amount of players, more than most games get in their lifetime, but it also shows how proficient EA has been at catching those who decide to cheat.
While they wouldn’t reveal their exact methods, EA says that they are “attacking this from every angle, from improvements to detecting cheaters, bolstering resources and tools, to improving processes and other sneaky things to combat sellers and cheater” in order to make cheating less of a problem in Apex Legends on PC. The game hit a 50 million player count at the beginning of March, and that number has likely only continued to grow, so it’s good to see that EA is keeping up with the rise in cheating that comes alongside popularity.
