For the past few years, developer Red Barrels’ Outlast series has terrified gamers with its presentation of a dark world viewed only through the lens of a video camera, with the studio confirming several exciting developments for the series to look forward to.

In a post on the company’s Facebook page, Red Barrels provided a look at what’s to come for Outlast fans. First, the studio addressed fan requests for DLC for the most recent entry in the series, Outlast II, which is most likely since the first game received post-launch DLC through its “Whistleblower” add-on. Red Barrels addressed that while “Outlast was made with the idea of DLC in mind,” the studio said “that was not the case for Outlast II,” seeming to indicate that the game will not be receiving an expansion or DLC.

However, the studio expressed that “we will, at some point, make an Outlast 3 and answers will be given,” and instead said that the team is currently “working on something a lot of you have been asking for.” Red Barrels specifically said that the team’s new project “won’t be a sequel” to the previous games, but will instead be “a distinct experience set in the Outlast universe.” While no other information or hints were given, the studio said that “if all goes well, we’ll soon be able to reveal more.”

In addition to the hints at what’s to come from Outlast in the future, Red Barrels also announced that the Outlast series will be heading to the Nintendo Switch in “the first quarter of 2018”, with the post including a picture of the first two games both running on the device.
