Norman Reedus has certainly paved his way in the film industry; unlike most actors, he isn’t afraid to shy away from his tattoos appearing in media. This includes his hand tattoo, that made its debut in the Death Stranding E3 2018 trailer. And while the tattoo may be best remembered from the speculation revolving around that, it looks like it will be following him in all future performances — including recent cameos in The Walking Dead.

For those of you who may remember, during the PlayStation 2018 E3 Press Conference we got to see an extended look at Reedus’ character — Sam — as he trekked through a multitude of environments. During a detour with invisible mud creatures, we see a close-up of Sam’s hand. In fact, you can go ahead and catch it around this point of the trailer:

Now let’s clarify something off the bat–the tattoo (likely) doesn’t have to do with a Death Stranding plot point unless Kojima wants to loop it in.

While many within the dedicated Death Stranding community were initially working around the clock to figure out if it was a Ludens reference or to decode the secret in the stars, the answer was far more simple. It is just a brand new tat from Reedus, this time promoting his gallery titled “Big Bald Gallery.” In fact, you can see Kojima tweeting about it vaguely (as is custom for the legendary developer):

However, it’s interesting to note that this tattoo isn’t only being memorialized within Death Stranding — it is also following Reedus’ to his most notable role of Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead.

In a recently aired episode of The Walking Dead titled “Adaption” (Season 9, Episode 9) we get a quick glimpse of Reedus’ Daryl Dixon in a jail cell. As he holds up a knife, we can see his tattoo:

Though, things in the video are fairly dark and blurry — let’s offer up a lightened, enhanced version so you can see it more clearly:

It’s always great to see actors (both on-screen and voice actors) embrace their body art, and there is always going to be a tie to Death Stranding in his future work — official or not.

This week has otherwise had some other cool piecemeal information about Death Stranding — including how the female character from the same trailer is a tribute to Disney’s Mary Poppins. Seriously.

Though many people have had an opportunity to test out the game (and are offering it high praise), we still have no confirmed release window for the PS4-exclusive title. If you want to show your early support for the developer, feel free to pre-order the game on Amazon.
