Nintendo Switch Has Its Best-Selling Period During Thanksgiving Weekend

The Nintendo Switch was among one of the hottest items this past weekend. According to the beloved game company, not only did it have its best-selling week ever in the United States but also became the best-selling Nintendo console in U.S. history between the Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday period. It was also noted that according to Adobe Analytics, it was the top-selling video game product and one of the most-purchased items online overall during the five-day period. As far as lifetime sales are concerned, the Switch has reached more than 8.2 million sales since its launch last year.

According to Nintendo’s internal sales figures, $250 million in products were sold between Thanksgiving and Black Friday; this includes game systems, Classic Edition systems, and games.

The newest iteration of the beloved Pokemon franchise, Pokemon: Let’s Go Pikachu! and Eevee! has sold more than 1.5 million units in the U.S. since its launch earlier this month. Super Mario Party, which launched earlier last month, surpassed its lifetime U.S. sales of 1 million units making it the fastest-selling game in the Mario Party series.

The past weekend was also good for the 3DS and Classic Edition systems. The 3DS family of systems has now reached a total install base of 22 million. The Super NES Classic Edition has surpassed 2.5 million in lifetime sales while the NES Classic surpassed 2 million in lifetime sales.

Here is the full list of milestones Nintendo hit during Thanksgiving weekend:

Nintendo Switch

  • Nintendo Switch hardware sales grew 115 percent compared to the same period in 2017.
  • Lifetime sales of Nintendo Switch, which is entering only its second holiday season, have reached more than 8.2 million units.
  • Sales of first-party games, including digital downloads, topped 1 million units Nov. 22-26, beating 2017’s totals by 78 percent.
  • Nintendo Switch games Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! have hit combined U.S. sales of more than 1.5 million units since their Nov. 16 launch.
  • Super Mario Party surpassed lifetime U.S. sales of 1 million units, becoming the fastest-selling game in the Mario Party series and the fifth million-selling first-party Nintendo Switch game in the U.S. alone, joining The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the WildMario Kart 8 DeluxeSuper Mario Odyssey and Splatoon 2.

Nintendo 3DS

  • Thanks in part to strong Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday sales, the total installed base for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems has hit 22 million.
  • Additionally, after 12 months of availability, lifetime combined sales of the Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon games crossed 2.2 million.

Classic Gaming Systems

  • Also aided by strong Nov. 22-26 sales, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System: Super NES Classic Edition system surpassed lifetime sales of 2.5 million.
  • And the Nintendo Entertainment System: NES Classic Edition system surpassed lifetime sales of 2 million.

The company also notes that this still does not account for the company’s highly anticipated game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Set to release on December 7, 2018, it has managed to not only become the most pre-ordered game for the Switch but also the most pre-ordered Super Smash Bros. game within the series.
