During the keynote from CitizenCon, Chris Roberts’ Cloud Imperium Games showcased a new live demo of Star Citizen, and this time around, it’s pretty crazy.

More specifically, the video displayed what the game will deliver after the release of Alpha 3.0, which according to Chris Roberts will come in the “very near future.”

We also learn that after the release of 3.0, the development team will shift to a quarterly release schedule with regular content additions for backers, instead of massive releases that come only when they’re ready.

The ability to buy and lease ships in the game will also be added, and Arcorp will be fully modeled, letting players explore and fly around. That’s where the demo begins.

I’m not joking or exaggerating, by the way. While it sounds (and looks) crazy, it’s a full-size Earth-size planet, completely covered by a massive city. As Roberts said, “it’s pretty much Coruscant.” And it’s not just empty buildings, ad they include landing pads, shops, quest givers, NPCs, mass transit and more.

After seamlessly taking off from Arcorp, the demo continued to a giant space station, and then into long-distance quantum travel to a completely different planet (Hurston) with its own massive cities, weapon factories (a staple of the planet), and desert-like environment.

You can check out the video below, and enjoy the mind-boggling scale of it all. It’s simply amazing under every point of view.

Before you watch the video, though, do keep in mind for the sake of full disclosure that the author of this article is also one of the backers of the game.
